Rolling hills and flat bottomlands help make agriculture the major industry in Metcalfe County. According to the latest Kentucky Agriculture Statistics, Metcalfe County has 945 farms totaling 138,477 acres.

The major crops in the county are burley tobacco, corn, soybeans, hay, and various horticulture crops. Metcalfe County also has an abundance of hardwood trees allowing timber production to thrive. Local loggers have access to several lumber mills where they can market logs.
